Presented as though you’ve walked back in time into an early 1900s garage and workshop, the Pointon Collection, just five minutes from Masterton, brings the stories of a rotating range of vintage cars and motorcycles to life.
Everything has a Wairarapa story attached to it which makes this museum all the more interesting. Surrounded by the old signs, equipment, tools and spares, the atmosphere is more like you’re in your grandfather’s shed than a museum.
The vehicles are complemented by displays of original clothes from the same period.
The building has its own history starting life as a military barracks at the Featherston Army Camp at the beginning of World War 1.
The stories all come to life with a tour with Gaye or Francis Pointon who is still the local mechanic.
