Wairarapa Cycling

The Remutaka Cycle Trail

The Wairarapa has quiet country roads, town parks and bike trails for keen cyclists of all ages.

A must-do is the spectacular Remutaka Cycle Trail. It's a 'Great Ride' on Nga Haerenga, the New Zealand Cycle Trail - which means it's one of the country's best!  Our favourite day ride is the Remutaka Rail Trail - so close to Wellington.

There are plenty of options for bike hire in the Wairarapa and plenty of cycling trails. Head to Martinborough, pick up a wine trail map from the i-SITE Visitor Centre and pedal at your own pace around the vineyards

You can also bring your bike on the train from Wellington - a great way to get here and see the country side along the way. Take your bike up to the front of the train, let a staff member know you're there and provided there's enough space in the luggage compartment you're away!

The Wairarapa has the best road cycling in the country. Join in a local bunch ride, go on your own or bring your own bunch for a ride on these recommended circuits.
