The sheltered, gently sloping beach at Riversdale is four kilometres long and a fantastic spot for swimming, surfing and fishing.
It's easy to get to - just an hour out of Masterton on the Masterton-Castlepoint Road. And it has a small general store that doubles as the local fish and chip shop - just in case you don't land the big one on the beach!
Stay safe in the water. Swimmers can be caught off guard by rips at Riversdale, so make sure you swim between the lifeguard flags.
Don't forget to stop at Rewanui Forest Park on your way to Riversdale (it's just before the Riversdale turn-off). It's a series of of loop walks through a 334 hectare farm, taking in native bush and pine forest.
There is a range of holiday house and camping accommodation around Riversdale Beach. Talk to the Masterton i-SITE Visitor Centre or check out accommodation options on the Wairarapa Coast.
